Self-confidence is said to be the difference between feeling unstoppable or feeling scared out of your wits. The perception of yourself has a massive impact on how others will perceive you. So perception is reality and the more self-confidence you have, the more likely it is that you’ll succeed.
Having said that, most of the factors affecting self-confidence are way beyond your control, and there are a number of things that you can consciously do to build your self-confidence.
By using the strategies below you’ll be able to get the mental edge that you need to reach your maximum potential.
Build More Self Confidence
Dress Sharp
Although it’s said that clothes don’t make the man, they certainly do affect the way he feels about himself. No one is more conscious of their physical appearance than yourself and when you don’t look good, it can change the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. You should use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, a significant improvement can be made by bathing and shaving frequently, wearing clean clothes, and also being cognizant of the latest styles.
This does not mean you need to spend a lot of money on clothes. A great rule to follow is “spend twice as much, buy half as much”. Meaning rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes buy half as many select, high quality items. In the long run this will decrease spending because expensive clothes don’t wear out as quick and stay in style longer than cheaper clothes. Also, buying fewer clothes will also help reduce the clutter in your closet.
Walk Tall
One of the best ways to tell how a person is feeling about themselves is to examine their walk. Are they walking slow, tired, painfully? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence, walk tall and quickly. Like the saying goes, “they have places to go and people to see”, and important work to do. If you aren’t in a hurry then you can increase your self-confidence by putting some pep into your step. Walking 25% faster will make you look and feel more important.
Good Posture
Similarly to walking tall, the way a person carries themself tells its own story. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movements display a severe lack of self-confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By simply practicing a good posture, you will automatically feel a whole lot more confident. Try standing up straight, keeping your head up and always making eye contact. In no time you’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.
Gratitude
When you focus too much on what you want your mind creates reasons why you can’t or shouldn’t have it. This will lead you to dwell on your weaknesses. The best way to avoid this is to consciously focusing on gratitude. Set aside some time each day to mentally list everything that you have to be grateful for. Also, recall your past successes, unique skills, loving relationships and positive momentum. You will be amazed at how much you have going for yourself and motivated to take the next step towards success.
Work out
Physical fitness has a massive effect on your self-confidence. If you are out of shape then you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and a lot less energetic. By simply working out, you’ll improve your physical appearance, energize yourself and accomplish something positive. Simply having the discipline to work out not only makes you feel better, but it creates positive momentum that you can build on for the rest of the day.
